Getting started

Measure your first field

Walk a boundary, check the result and save a field record without needing to understand surveying terminology.

What you will haveA saved field boundary with its area, perimeter and phone-accuracy evidence.
AllowAbout 10 minutes plus the walk

Before you start

  • Use the phone outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
  • Charge the phone and wear suitable footwear for the ground.
  • Remember that phone positioning is useful for practical records, not legal boundary decisions.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open Measure area

From the AcreTrace Home screen, choose Measure area. Allow precise location while using the app if Android asks.

  2. 2

    Wait for a useful position

Stand safely at the first boundary position and let the displayed location settle. Avoid standing beside buildings, machinery or dense trees where possible.

  3. 3

    Record the boundary in order

Walk around the edge in one direction and add points at corners and meaningful changes in direction. You do not need to add a point every few steps.

  4. 4

    Close and check the field

When you return to the start, close the boundary. Check the shape, acreage, perimeter and any accuracy warnings before saving.

  5. 5

    Name the record

Add a field name, holding and reference if they are useful. The saved field will appear in the Field Register and remain available offline.

If you get stuck

If AcreTrace cannot get a position, check that Android Location is on and that AcreTrace has precise location permission.

If the shape jumps away from the field, undo the suspicious point and record it again after the position settles.

Never enter unsafe ground merely to improve a measurement.
