Before you start
- A backup can contain precise field locations, notes and marker photographs.
- Choose a secure destination you control.
- Do not rely on Android automatic app backup; AcreTrace disables it to prevent silent transfer of field data.
Step by step
- 1
Open Settings
Choose Create complete backup. AcreTrace prepares the surveys, field features, settings and marker photographs.
- 2
Choose a safe destination
Use Android's document picker to save the dated .acretrace.json file outside AcreTrace. A secure cloud folder, encrypted drive or computer copy can protect against phone loss.
- 3
Confirm it completed
Return to Settings and check that AcreTrace shows the latest successful backup time.
- 4
Keep more than one copy
Do not overwrite the only known-good backup immediately after a major change. Keep a recent earlier copy as well.
- 5
Restore when needed
On the destination phone, open Settings, choose Restore from backup, select the file and review the preview before confirming.
If you get stuck
If the destination cannot be opened, choose another folder or storage provider in Android's document picker.
Do not edit the JSON backup by hand.
Always create a fresh backup before uninstalling AcreTrace or clearing its application data.
