Use the optional OS OpenData map

Show a familiar Ordnance Survey Light background behind AcreTrace boundaries while the phone is online.

What you will haveFree OS OpenData map context on field screens, with the normal offline AcreTrace map as the fallback.

Before you start

  • The phone needs mobile data or Wi-Fi while downloading map tiles.
  • OS mapping is visual context. It does not make phone measurements or imported boundaries survey-grade.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open Settings

Find OS OpenData background map and turn it on. AcreTrace uses the verified Light Web Mercator style so the field outline stays easy to read.

  2. 2

    Turn the option on

AcreTrace will request free Light-style OpenData tiles directly from Ordnance Survey when a field map is shown.

  3. 3

    Open a field

The saved boundary, exclusions, markers and current position are drawn over the OS background.

  4. 4

    Keep working if reception drops

Measurements, saved records and the ordinary AcreTrace field plan continue to work. OS tiles are not required for calculations.

  5. 5

    Export normally

PDF reports use AcreTrace's own clear schematic field plan; OS raster tiles are not copied into reports.

If you get stuck

If tiles cannot load, AcreTrace says that the OS background is unavailable and keeps the offline field plan visible. Check the connection and try again later.

Only free OpenData zoom levels 7 to 16 are requested, so the background is less detailed than premium OS mapping.

The API request goes to Ordnance Survey, whose terms and privacy information apply to that request.
